Sailing In San Diego

Location: San Diego, California

Just a quick 6 hour drive or a 45 minute flight away, San Diego is one of my favorite spots to escape to for a weekend. We headed out of town for Memorial Day weekend to escape from the Arizona heat, and reality, for a bit. Every time I pack for May in San Diego for some reason I decide to pack all these cute summer outfits then get there and remember it’s freezing cold in May. Okay, not freezing, but I’m an Arizona girl who needs a jacket when the weather drops below 80 degrees.

Sadly I didn’t get to wear any of my summery outfits and had to some how scramble together warmer outfits with what I brought. But, the weather ended up being perfect on Friday for our day with Sail San Diego! Blake and I went sailing with my family in Seattle and it ended up being the best vacation activity I had ever done. This sailing trip we went with Blake’s family and Sail San Diego certainly did not disappoint. They provided snacks, beer, wine and an assortment of sodas in a cute little nautical themed, below deck cabin. Captain John was a blast and had a killer music playlist! He let me take over steering the boat for a bit so it’s a miracle we are all still alive. If you haven’t ever been sailing I highly recommend it for family vacations, Blake and I decided this is seriously our go to activity no matter where we travel to. If there is ever an opportunity to sail, we will be taking it!

While I love a cute little roof top bar or a beautiful restaurant with a gorgeous view, you will ALWAYS find us heading straight to Lahaina Beach House. You really can’t beat the view and atmosphere, as long as you’re into the whole dive bar, not a care in the world, everyone enjoying themselves and letting lose kind of vibe. It’s about 5 steps from the beach and they have a juke box that blasts throwbacks and top 40 music all day. This is by far one of our favorite places to enjoy a few too many cocktails and watch the sun go down.

On our last day we decided to head over to the San Diego Zoo, which according to Blake’s research is the 10th largest zoo in the world. Since we had very little energy after all the weekend fun, we explored the park in the laziest way possible. First the bus tour to see as many animals as possible without walking, then hit up our favorite animals for an up close look, then hopped on the Skyfari which takes you from the back of the zoo and drops you right by the exit.

Overall it was another weekend trip for the books, spent enjoying time with family and celebrating the 1 year anniversary of Blake and I deciding we weren’t “just friends.” Cheers to another trip around the sun with my favorite person in the world.
