The Number One Thing I Use To Make Decisions

“Trust your intuition,” “trust your gut,” we get it! We’ve seen that quote a million times on Pinterest and if you click the hashtag #quoteoftheday I’m sure you’ll find it posted a million more times. If you don’t know this already, I LOOOVE a good inspirational quote. But, it irks me when a really important or profound statement gets overused to the point where we are almost desensitized to it; “Trust your intuition,” is one of those quotes for me.

I talk a lot about overcoming fear or anxiety and trusting my intuition plays a big role in how I do that.

What in the heck is your intuition, you ask?

Well, truthfully, how does one really know for sure? All I know is what it is for me.

Your intuition knows what is of the highest good for you and your life. It does not rely on logic or past experiences. Intuition is instinct, in the same way humans have relied on our instincts to protect us since the beginning of our existence, your intuition has its way of knowing what is best for you. Your brain can only make decisions based on the past, but when you want something you’ve never had or experienced you’ve got to rely on something else; your intuition.

Your brain tells you, “you can’t do that, you’ve tried stuff before and failed it’s definitely going to happen again,” “you’re not good enough,” “he’s going to cheat on you just like the last guy,” “you’re not that special.” Your intuition says, “trust me.”

Your mind is what creates a checklist of all the things your future husband/wife must be, based off all the mishaps in past relationships and every other relationship you’ve been able to observe. It’s like your brain is constantly looking at the world through the filter of your past. Your intuition needs no such thing, your intuition says “screw the checklist,” it simply knows. Consider the fact that if you let go of what you think you want, it might actually open you up to something even better – and this doesn’t just apply to relationships.

Your intuition sees the world with fresh eyes and makes decisions based on the moment. When you listen to your intuition and make decisions based on trust, rather than past fears, things feel lighter. They flow. Your intuition tells you to let go and let flow.
