We only of one body, one set of skin, and taking care of it is not only necessary but can actually be uplifting. I don’t know about you but I feel worlds better about myself when I know that I am actively doing things to take care of my body. There is just something about enhancing natural, makeup free beauty that makes me feel more confident about myself. Which is why I got together with my friend Calli – at The Skin Loft located in Old Town Scottsdale, tucked inside the Luminosa Beauty Bar – to put together a few tips for how to get glowing skin.
1. Treat yourself! –
The perfect way to give your skin a glowing boost is to get a professional treatment. Having a professional do a skin analysis and taking a look at what’s going on below the surface of your skin to target it and catch it before you even knew it was there. I felt so relaxed and rejuvenated after my treatment at The Skin Loft, the enzyme masks smell heavenly, and I got to make my own organic custom herbal clay mask. Calli put together a treatment that was specific to my skin and she gives a killer shoulder, neck and face massage!
2. Let’s Get Physical!
I used to get so embarrassed as a kid in ballet class when 5 minutes in I was dripping sweat, while other little girls barely broke a sweat the entire class. Until I learned that sweating is so incredibly good for you, it is your body’s way of ridding toxins from your body. I always do what I can to break a sweat as often as possible.
3. HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE!
I have been carrying a water bottle with me everywhere I go for as long as I can remember. I feel a noticeable difference in my skin, my lips get chapped and I get headaches when I don’t. Water cleanses the body and eliminates toxins and waste. It hydrates the body and removes excess oils and dirt. Drinking at least 2 liters per day gives the skin a bright, noticeable change in less than a week.
4. Eat Your Veggies!
What we eat is essential for healthy skin. When I eat too much sugar, like clock work, I wake up with a break out. Taking in the right amount of micro-nutrients and vitamins is great for clear skin. Food for glowing skin should be carefully selected natural protein foods like fish, nuts and white meat, grains like buckwheat, brown rice and quinoa, vegetables like broccoli, tomato and beets are very healthy and good for the skin.
5. Glow From The Inside Out!
Calli recommends taking omega 3’s, fermented cod liver oil and optizinc for hormonal acne.
6. AVOID THE SUN!
Excuse to buy a new hat for summer? Yes, please! Blake literally made fun of me in the Caribbean because I was so adamant about wearing a hat that my face was far paler than my body. Whatever! We all know too much sun exposure can cause skin damage, wrinkles and skin cancer. Calli suggests avoiding the sun between 10am to 2pm as the sun rays can get really harsh, but that the morning sun from 7am to 9am is actually good for the skin.
7. AIN’T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR DEAD SKIN CELLS!
Most of us concentrate on cleansing, toning and moisturizing, but we completely ignore exfoliation. A huge benefit of exfoliation is glowing skin! It is the best solution for getting rid of dead skin cells to give the skin a beautiful natural glow.
Life gets busy and it’s easy to forget the little things that make a big difference. But, you and your skin both deserve to feel beautiful and taken care of. Bonus tip, using an at home skin regimen. I go through phases of sticking to a strict regimen, but I always notice the difference in the glow of my skin when I do. Calli put together a Skin Script regimen for me that I will be testing out.
