25 Things I Wish I Could Tell My 18-Year-Old Self

25

Come this Sunday I will have been alive on this planet for a quarter of a century… 25 freaking years! I get that it’s not THAT long, but still, when you put it that way it sounds insane. Is it just me or do the years get shorter as we get older? It sure feels like it. This past year has been a year of almost complete transformation; I think if I had a conversation with my 24-year-old self I would almost not recognize me. I can only imagine how much I will change in the next few years. Overall I am the happiest, most secure I have ever been and I honestly couldn’t be more grateful for that.

I am a big believer in the cliché that everything in your life happens in perfect timing and for a reason, and to be honest I don’t think I would go back and change anything in my life. But, to celebrate 25 years I put together 25 things I wish I could tell my 18-year-old self.

  1. You’re going to lose yourself before you find yourself, it is going to suck, but it will be really good for you.
  2. You think you know everything, but you don’t. You got awhile before you figure things out, and that’s ok!
  3. LEARN TO WORK OUT PROPERLY – You’re not naturally strong with a fast metabolism and can eat In-N-Out whenever you want, you’ve been dancing 5 hours a day you’re entire life. Walking on the treadmill for 15 minutes is not going to cut it.252525
  4. Stop giving a sh** what people think of you, just enjoy yourself. Like honestly, your insecurity is exhausting.
  5. You don’t need to get spray tans every week…
  6. Stop wasting your money on stupid stuff. (25-year-old self still needs to learn this)
  7. Learn how to use a credit card properly, credit cards DO NOT equal free money. It is going to suck when you’re on your own and have to pay that sh** back, PLUS interest.
  8. WHY, in the actual hell, do you insist on wearing 6-inch heels every night? Honestly, put on some flats, no one looks cute trying to walk through rocks in those things.
  9. Making him jealous is never a good strategy. If you feel like you have to make him jealous, MOVE ON.2525
  10. If you’re friends think he is a douche bag, they are 100% right. Listen to them! It’s not that they don’t understand your relationship, they just know you deserve better.
  11. When you graduate it is OK to not have it all figured out.
  12. NOTHING WILL GO ACCORDING TO PLAN – and you will be so happy that it didn’t.
  13. You know that movie The Perks Of Being A Wallflower? The quote that says, “we accept the love we think we deserve,” ya? Well it’s true.25
  14. Not all guys suck, you just suck at picking good ones.
  15. Get out of your head and actually experience life.
  16. Listen to your intuition. You know what is best for you better than anyone around you.
  17. You are stronger and more capable than you can even imagine.
  18. It is NEVER your job to fix someone else; your only job is to be the best version of you possible.
  19. Stop relying on anything outside of you to make you happy. Happiness is not something you find, it is something you choose to be – no matter what is happening around you.
  20. When you feel like everything is crashing around you, get excited. You will ALWAYS come out of it stronger, more confident, and better than ever.
  21. You’re honestly the only thing holding you back…
  22. Stop telling people you never want to get married. It’s not that you don’t want to get married; you’re just terrified you’ll never find someone. That’s stupid.
  23. You’re family is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN THE WORLD, stop taking them for granted.
  24. Take a deep breath and relax, everything will workout exactly how it is supposed to.
  25. You will be so much happier when you learn to give without needing anything in return.25
